Red Wings hand Ducks the kind of loss they might regret later
DETROIT — Jimmy Howard stopped 32 shots and the Detroit Red Wings got goals from Dylan Larkin and Frans Nielsen to take a 2-1 victory against the Ducks on Tuesday night.
The Ducks (27-20-11) dropped their second straight in starting a critical trip with an empty feeling, losing another game to a team that’s destined to miss the playoffs. At the rate they’re going, they could be sitting out as well.
Adam Henrique got the only goal for the Ducks with 3:54 remaining, but they were playing uphill when it came to the scoreboard. Howard made 16 of his saves in the first period and Larkin’s goal off a turnover by Bieksa gave Detroit a 1-0 lead.
Nielsen added to it in the second as he followed up on a rebound and put a shot past Ducks goalie John Gibson. Gibson wasn’t tested much, facing only 16 shots in the Ducks’ first game played at the Red Wings’ new Little Caesars Arena.
Much more coming on this story.
