The Register’s Orange County boys basketball top 10 for Monday, Feb. 12

1. Mater Dei 20-6 (50 poll points)
The Trinity League champions, who play Crespi in the Open Division first round Friday, go into playoffs with a nine-game winning streak.

2. Santa Margarita 20-6 (45)
Eagles finished second in Trinity League, have a challenging first-round assignment in Open Division – at Etiwanda.

3. JSerra 18-8 (39)
Lions, fourth-place finisher in the Trinity League, lost their final four regular-season games but all were to excellent teams – Mater Dei, St. John Bosco, Santa Margarita and Rancho Christian of Temecula.

4. Capistrano Valley 23-6 (34)
Cougars won league title by going 8-0 in Sea View League, are seeded fourth in Division 2AA.

5. Canyon 25-3 (32)
Crestview League-champion Comanches defeated Yorba Linda, lost to Esperanza and are seeded No. 2 in 2AA.

6. Laguna Beach 25-3 (24)
Breakers, seeded second in 3AA, cruised to wins over Estancia and Saddleback to finish 10-0 in Orange Coast League.

7. Northwood 22-5 (12)
Timberwolves won the Pacific Coast League title, given a challenging 2AA first-round home game against San Clemente.

8. Cypress 22-4 (11)
Centurions went undefeated in league for first time in school history, won Empire League title with 10-0 league record.

9. Aliso Niguel 21-8 (10)
Wolverines tied for first in South Coast League, but going into playoffs off of back-to-back losses – to Trabuco Hills and Tesoro – is not the preferred method.

10. Trabuco Hills 20-7 (7)
Mustangs, South Coast League co-champs, had won four in a row before season-finale loss to Capistrano Valley.

Also receiving votes: Saddleback Valley Christian 23-5 (5); Ocean View 23-4 (4); Edison 20-7 (1).
