Motorcyclist dies in Santa Ana after colliding with SUV leaving a driveway

SANTA ANA — A 34-year-old man riding a motorcycle was killed Friday afternoon when he collided with an SUV as it was pulling out of a driveway, authorities said.

Fire officials arrived on scene about 11:20 a.m., Friday, August 18, and pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene, Santa Ana Police Cmdr. Matt Brown said.

The motorcyclist was heading westbound on First Street and broadsided the SUV in the 4800 block of West First Street as it was pulling out of a residential driveway, Brown said.

The driver of the SUV remained on scene and police don’t believe that alcohol or drugs were factors in the accident, Brown said.

The motorcyclist was identified as David Rorex of Fountain Valley by the Orange County coroner’s department.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
