MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center gets new chief operating officer

LAGUNA HILLS — Ryan Olsen has taken over as MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center’s chief operating officer, replacing Cheryl Jacob who retired last month after serving in that position for 37 years.

Since 2015, Olsen has served as chief operating officer and senior vice president at the Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute, a leader in orthopedic and sports medicine.

Olsen said he hopes to expand services at MemorialCare Saddleback and continue innovation.

“For example, we’ve installed the smallest pacemaker, the size of a vitamin,” he said.

Olsen said he is looking forward to the planned spring opening of the hospital’s new infusion center, which will provide intravenous drugs and blood transfusions for patients.

Marcia Manker, CEO of Memorial Care Saddleback and Orange Coast Medical Centers, said Olsen “brings a wealth of experience, expertise and demonstrated success in all aspects of health care management as well as leadership and advanced knowledge in numerous clinical areas.”

The challenge for MemorialCare, like other health systems, is to “bend the cost curve,” Olsen said.

“I believe we’ve tried to move ahead of the cost curve and keep outcomes good,” he said.
