Football: Calvary Chapel coach Smith resigns after one season, quarterback departs for Upland

Calvary Chapel football coach Austin James Smith has resigned after one season to become a quarterback coach at FCS Jackson State, Eagles athletic director Jon Hughes confirmed Wednesday.

Smith guided the Eagles to a 3-7 overall record last season. The team went 3-2 in the Orange Coast League to finish third.

In other Calvary Chapel football news, promising freshman quarterback Cole Boop (6-3, 185) has transferred to Upland, according to a news report and his bio on his Twitter page. Boop has been offered by Oregon State and threw for almost 3,000 yards and 18 TDs last season.

Upland reached the CIF-SS Division 2 semifinals last season, losing to Oaks Christian.
